Absent Procedures

Information for Parents and Guardians

South Gate High School will provide daily live instruction to students Monday through Friday during school closures. This means that students are expected to attend daily live instruction for each class period scheduled for the day. Please check the schedule to see our school's calendar. Students must log in to their scheduled class during their scheduled time and follow additional instructions by support staff as needed. Teachers will take attendance every day.

Daily attendance will be tracked and documented as defined by student participation in:

  • Daily, synchronous/live instruction (logging in through Schoology)
  • Completion of assignments and assessments

If your student has missed scheduled live instruction and does not log in or communicate all day, you can send an email to studentabsences@southgatehs.orgIn the email, please include the student's name, parent name, reason, date and callback number. We look forward to collaborating to ensure daily student engagement.

Welcome to the Attendance Office

As your Pupil Services & Attendance Counselor, I am here to assist with individual and school wide student attendance by helping to remove social/ emotional, home and community barriers that are preventing students from attending school. I also provide counseling services for students who are in need. Please contact me for attendance related questions or concerns.

PSA Counselors hold a Master’s degree or higher in Social Work or School Counseling, with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing Child Welfare and Attendance services.  PSA Counselors track and share attendance data and trends.  PSA Counselors teach and reinforce clear, positive expectations for student attendance, implementing absence prevention, early intervention, and intensive intervention strategies to improve individual and school-wide attendance.

PSA Counselors interpret laws and policies pertaining to education, enrollment, attendance, and pupil records.  They also serve as liaisons between the school and home, supporting students and families who confront barriers to educational success, identifying resources and implementing services to prevent students from dropping out of school.
